T. B. Jackson-Williams was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Jackson- Williams is the youngest of three children; a brother and sister that were already developing artist. It wasn’t until reaching the first grade that she became aware that not all families practiced art on a regular basis.
Jackson-Williams studied at Parson’s School of Design in New York. She has worked in various mediums for over 24 years and has won local, regional and national awards. Her artwork can be found in many private and public collections worldwide. Her work includes corporate murals, commercial package and promotional designs, children’s book illustrations, caricatures and portraits.
In 2003, Jackson-Williams literally stumbled upon a way to create art that was exciting and new to her. Torn paper mosaics, or paper painting as some call it, presented itself to her one day by way of her young daughters infatuation with tearing paper into tiny bits and placing them on the floor in a variety of patterns. After picking up several of these creations it finally struck that one of them actually resembled a seascape.
Since that time and with the help of her daughter, Jackson-Williams has created hundreds of art pieces entirely from torn magazine, news and decorative papers. Her objective is to create work that has the appearance of watercolor or acrylic painting but with a broken tile-like depth. The interplay of bits different surfaces, minute letters and colors create a complex image that is and should be appreciated for its uniqueness.
